Deep Insights

Salesforce continues to position itself as an agent orchestration platform, amid a fierce vendor race for AI dominance. This shift is reflected in the package updates announced this week: Agentforce add-ons and the Agentforce 1 edition replace the existing Einstein add-ons and Einstein 1 edition.

Last month, Salesforce announced the acquisition ofsoftware company Informatica, in a deal valued at approximately $8 billion. Salesforce views the transaction as a "key enabler" for the "next phase of AI-driven growth," according to company President and Chief Operating and Financial Officer Robin Washington.

In recent months, the company has alsoexpanded its model lineupto support agentic AI,taken steps to enhance AI agent capabilitiesand begunreaping the financial rewards of these efforts

The new plans and packages arrive as other vendors also adjust their pricing models.

"Over the past 18 months, quite a few companies have raised prices," Distinguished VP Analyst Arun Chandrasekaran told CIO Dive, a sister publication of CFO Dive.

IT leaders and enterprise budgets are already feeling the pressure. According to a Tangoe report, nearly three-quarters of IT professionals say increased AI usage has made cloud bills "unmanageable." IT professionals attribute rising software costs to theinflux of AI features

"The challenge for companies like Salesforce is that they are really trying to figure out the right pricing model," Chandrasekaran said.

Salesforce introduced flexible pricing for Agentforce after initially offering a per-conversation model. Chandrasekaran expects vendors to continue iterating from traditional models, especially as more work occurs outside human oversight.

"They are trying to introduce these new pricing models to really understand how to meet customer expectations," Chandrasekaran said.

With Salesforce's August deadline approaching, enterprises have only a few weeks to recalculate higher bills or seek alternative services.
