Savant Report Reveals Finance AI Automation Gap: 76% Plan to Invest, Only 6% Achieve Advanced Deployment

The latest report from Savant Labs shows a significant gap in AI automation among enterprises in finance, tax, and accounting: 76% of respondents plan to invest in agentic automation in 2026, but only 6% have advanced strategies for large-scale implementation. Governance and audit concerns (37%) and ERP integration issues (24%) are the main obstacles. Savant Report Reveals Finance AI Automation Gap: 76% Plan to Invest, Only 6% Achieve Advanced Deployment

San Mateo, California — A leader in AI-driven analytics automationSavant Labstoday released its 2026 Agentic Automation Trends Report for Finance, Tax, and Accounting. The research aims to examine how business leaders are advancing their AI and automation strategies as they plan for the new year.

The report surveyed senior finance, tax, and accounting leaders across 22 industries in North American enterprises to assess the current state of agentic automation deployment within their organizations.

Although 76% of respondents view 2026 as a year for strategic investment in agentic automation and generative AI, only 30% have launched functional pilots, indicating a clear gap between vision and AI execution. The research identifies governance gaps as the most prominent obstacle in execution: 37% of leaders consistently worry about the governance, audit, and control capabilities of AI-automated workflows. Integration issues with core ERP and legacy systems follow at 24%.

"Enterprise teams have reached a consensus on the expected benefits of agentic automation, but many companies are still struggling with operational implementation," said Chitrang Shah, CEO and co-founder of Savant Labs. "Uncertainty about governance, auditability, and risk hinders scaling—and advances in agentic automation platforms like Savant are poised to solve this challenge."

The findings also challenge common assumptions about the impact of agentic automation on the workforce. More than 80% of leaders expect no net change in headcount in 2026, indicating that AI is primarily seen as a productivity multiplier rather than a means of workforce reduction. Only 3% of respondents anticipate net job growth, which means existing teams will face greater pressure to produce more with the same resources. This trend is accelerating the deployment of agentic automation projects to take over repetitive, error-prone work while preserving human judgment for higher-value responsibilities.

Other Key Findings from the Report

  • Ambition Outpaces Execution:Only 6% of leaders have developed advanced strategies for large-scale deployment across teams, with most respondents indicating their organizations remain limited to isolated pilots or single-function use cases.
  • Governance and Trust Are Primary Barriers:More than 60% of leaders cite data governance and security, and ERP integration issues as the top obstacles to widespread adoption. These concerns are mentioned more than three times as often as "cost and ROI," and three times as often as quality control and team skill gaps combined.
  • Uneven Adoption Across Functions:Accounting and finance operations teams are the first to benefit, actively adopting agentic automation for high-volume, repeatable workflows, while tax teams are more cautious due to higher regulatory risk.

The report also warns of growing competitive risks from delayed action. In the tightly connected finance and tax ecosystem, early adopters are gradually standardizing AI governance methods. Once these standards are established, organizations that fail to bridge governance gaps will struggle to keep pace with peers who have already scaled agentic automation and AI.

To help leaders advance their transformation, the report concludes with an action blueprint and immediate recommendations for effectively operating agentic automation while addressing governance gaps.
