According to estimates from global investment bank Houlihan Lokey, the global "CFO office software market" wasvalued at over 50 billion euros in 2023and is expected to exceed 100 billion euros by 2028.

The blog post noted that this rapidly evolving market includes both providers of core financial management software products and a growing number of smaller vendors offering specialized financial tools.

"Our goal is to showcase the breadth and depth of the CFO software market, highlighting both established players and emerging startups that are driving innovation in this space," Norwest partner Jacobsohn said in an email.

According to the "market map" drawn by Norwest in its analysis, the global CFO software industry currently consists of more than 300 technology companies. Jacobsohn said over 100 of them are new entrants that have entered the market in the past five years or so.

The blog post noted that vendors in the core financial management category, including large incumbents such as Oracle and SAP, "can provide a unified view of a company's financial health but may lack the deep insights and specific functionalities offered by focused solutions."

Jacobsohn said generative AI is rapidly reshaping the landscape of the CFO software market.

"We are seeing a surge of AI-driven tools that automate tasks and enhance decision-making with precision and efficiency, covering financial functions from tax and treasury to procurement," he told CFO Dive.

The market map includes startups backed by Norwest, such as procurement management software maker Oro Labs and cloud cost management platform provider AmberFlo.

A recent study by Gartner found that customer relationship management, cloud-based enterprise resource planning, and analytics and business intelligence tools are thethree most valued technologies in finance functions, and all three are expected to receive high levels of future investment.

On-premise ERP systems saw the largest decline in value, a shift that "highlights the growing preference for cloud solutions with advanced capabilities," the report stated.

KPMG, one of the Big Four accounting firms, found last year that in the AI era, abouteight in ten companies struggle to keep up with rapid technological change, with financial constraints being a major barrier.
