Chuong's appointment comes about four months after Atlassian announced that current CFO Joe Binz would step down. Binz, who had served as CFO since September 2022, planned to leave this summer. At the time, Binz said he was approaching several "significant life events" and wanted to "devote his full attention" to them, as CFO Dive previously reported.

At Atlassian,Chuong's compensation packagewill include an annual base salary of $600,000 and an annual target bonus of 75% of his base salary. According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the offer also includes an initial restricted stock unit grant with a target value of $22 million, vesting over four years, plus a one-time signing bonus of $2 million.

Chuong, 46, worked in investment banking at JPMorgan, Citigroup, and Bank of America before joining LinkedIn. The filing shows he holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of San Diego and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

At Atlassian, Chuong will oversee the company's finance and legal teams. Atlassian CEO and co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes praised Chuong in the press release as someone with "strategic thinking," a deep understanding of technology, and a "desire to help us build the future of team collaboration as we accelerate in the AI era."

The CFO transition also comes as the project management software vendor continues to bet on AI, as CFO Dive previously reported.
