Key points:

  • Cloud computing and content delivery platform Fastly announced in a press release on Wednesday that it has appointed Richard Wong as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective August 11. Wong's appointment is one of several recent executive changes at the company. Additionally, former Chief Revenue Officer Scott Lovett has been appointed President (responsible for go-to-market), effective immediately.
  • Previously, Fastly appointed former Chief Product Officer Charles "Kip" Compton as CEO in June, according to securities filings. Compton succeeded Todd Nightingale, who stepped down as CEO and President on June 16 to pursue other opportunities.
  • "Looking ahead, I look forward to sharing my vision for Fastly, with a focus on accelerating growth and driving near-term profitability," Compton said during Wednesday's Q2 earnings call. The call marked his first as CEO. On the same day, the San Francisco, California-based company issued another press release announcing its second-quarter results, reporting record revenue of $148.7 million.

In-depth analysis:

Wong will succeed Ronald Kisling as head of finance. According to filings submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Wong was hired as a senior advisor to the CEO starting August 7 and will serve in that role until the CFO transition date. Kisling will continue to serve as a strategic advisor to the company. Fastly provides edge computing and content delivery services to companies such as SeatGeek and Neiman Marcus.

According to Wong's LinkedIn profile, he previously served as the first CFO of software platform Benchling and home improvement software company Houzz, and also held roles as Vice President of Finance at LinkedIn and Senior Director of Operations Finance at Yahoo Inc.

According to Wednesday's company filing, Wong will receive an annual base salary of $450,000 as Fastly's CFO, along with restricted stock awards totaling $8 million as a "material inducement" to attract him to the role. Additionally, he will be eligible for an annual performance bonus with a target amount equal to 70% of his base salary.

"Rich brings a combination of strategic financial planning experience and vision, along with a solid investment banking foundation," Compton said Wednesday regarding the CFO appointment. "As our business grows and scales, he will be an excellent addition to the leadership team, and I look forward to his engagement with the investor community."

Wong will take on the top financial role at a company seeking to continue its growth momentum. The quarter ending June 30 marked the company's second consecutive quarter of record revenue, following Q1 revenue of $144.5 million. The company also narrowed its non-GAAP operating loss from $5.8 million in the quarter ending June 30 to $4.5 million, and raised its full-year 2025 revenue guidance to a range of $594 million to $602 million, while expecting to generate positive cash flow for the year, according to its earnings report.

However, executives also warned of potential changes that could affect the business, including regulatory adjustments by the Trump administration targeting social media platform TikTok and its parent company ByteDance, one of Fastly's largest customers.

On June 19, the Trump administration issued an executive order further extending the deadline for TikTok to comply with the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act to September 17. The law, signed by President Joseph Biden, was originally set to take effect in January and effectively bans TikTok from being used in the U.S. while it is owned by a Chinese company.

"Globally, TikTok's parent company ByteDance accounted for less than 10% of our revenue in Q2 2025, and U.S. traffic accounted for less than 2% of our revenue during the same period," Kisling said Wednesday. "While we don't know the outcome of U.S. policy on TikTok, consistent with our approach in the first half of 2025, we have excluded projected revenue from TikTok in the U.S. after September 17 from our guidance."

Fastly did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
