CME Group CFO to Succeed Longtime CEO
CME Group, the Chicago-based derivatives exchange operator, announced that current CEO Terrence Duffy will step down after a decade in the role to become Executive Chairman, with current CFO Lynne Fitzpatrick set to take over as CEO. The executive transition takes effect on March 1 or the date the company files its 10-K, whichever is later.

Fitzpatrick joined CME in 2006 and has served as CFO since 2023.

Fitzpatrick joins a growing list of CFOs who have risen to the CEO role. According to a previous report by CFO Dive, last yearCFO-to-CEO promotionsreached their highest level in a decade, with more than 10% of sitting CEOs coming directly from the top finance position.
A 20-year CME veteran, Fitzpatrick holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Brown University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Before joining CME, she worked in investment banking at Credit Suisse and UBS.
"It has been a privilege to work with and learn from Terry over the past 20 years, and I am honored to have the opportunity to succeed him as CEO in March. I am grateful for the trust he and the Board have placed in me," she said in a statement in the press release.
In her new role, Fitzpatrick, 48, will receive an annual base salary of $1.2 million, with an annual bonus "opportunity" of 200% of salary. Additionally, according to the SEC filing, her long-term incentive opportunity is 700% of salary.
