Web3 Finance Compensation Report: CFOs' packages are +17% higher in web3 | CFO Dive
A new report from Web3 Finance Club and Request Finance, based on a survey of nearly 900 web3 finance professionals, shows that web3 finance roles pay significantly more than traditional finance, with CFOs receiving 17% higher packages and accountants up to 128% more. The study also covers remote work prevalence, gender pay disparities, crypto compensation, variable pay, and equity compensation.
PARIS — Web3 Finance Club, in collaboration with Request Finance, has released a comprehensive compensation report based on a survey of nearly 900 web3 finance professionals. The findings offer critical benchmarks for finance leaders to evaluate pay structures and ensure competitive compensation in the evolving Web3 sector.
Key Findings: Web3 vs. Traditional Finance
The report reveals that web3 finance professionals earn substantially more than their traditional finance counterparts, with an average salary increase of 27%. Certain roles see even larger premiums; for instance, accountants in web3 can earn up to 128% more than those in traditional finance. Notably, CFO compensation packages in web3 are 17% higher than in traditional finance roles.
Remote Work and Flexibility
Remote work dominates the web3 finance landscape, with 92% of respondents working remotely—far exceeding global averages. This reflects the modern, flexible nature of web3 roles, which often operate across decentralized teams.
Gender Pay Gap Persists
Despite the progressive ethos of web3, a significant gender pay gap remains. On average, women in web3 finance earn 46% less than men, highlighting an area of concern for industry leaders.
Crypto Compensation and Variable Pay
Nearly half of web3 finance professionals receive part or all of their remuneration in cryptocurrencies. Specifically, 41.7% of respondents are paid at least partly in crypto, including stablecoins and company tokens. Variable pay structures vary widely: almost half of respondents report no variable pay, while others receive bonuses that can reach 50% or more of base salary.
Equity Compensation
Equity is a common component of compensation packages, with 63% of web3 finance professionals receiving equity. This prevalence underscores the startup culture embedded in the web3 sector.
